GPs can track your health over time, manage ongoing treatments, and help with regular screenings. Whether you're coming in for a sudden flare-up of a chronic condition or for routine health checks, a GP is the right place to start.

Our GPs see patients of all ages, from children to adults, which means there’s no need to book separate appointments with a paediatrician. Our in-house doctors can examine children just as thoroughly as they do adults. After an initial diagnosis, they can recommend further tests or treatments, and they can refer you to a specialist such as a paediatric neurologist or a urologist if it makes sense.

Geriatric consultations

At VisitHealth, our paediatricians specialise in caring for children from birth up to 18 years of age. Children have specific health needs, and it’s important to monitor their growth and development to ensure they are progressing as expected. Paediatricians are trained to spot issues early on and provide the necessary care to keep your child healthy.

While we have general practitioners, or GPs, who treat children from six weeks old and up, paediatricians step in when it comes to more complex or specific health conditions that affect children differently from adults. If a GP encounters a more serious issue, they will refer your child to a paediatrician for more specialised care. Paediatricians are experienced in handling conditions that are unique to children or that present differently in younger patients.

Whether it’s regular check-ups, vaccinations, or managing acute or chronic illnesses, paediatricians are there to provide the best care for your child, working closely with parents.

Paediatric care

At VisitHealth, our nursing care is designed to support patients either at home or at the clinic. Our experienced nurses provide a wide range of medical care under the direction of a doctor, while some procedures are done independently by the nurse without a referral. This includes administering intravenous and intramuscular injections, overseeing catheters, and assisting with stomas.

A stoma is an opening created in the abdomen during surgery to allow waste to exit the body when the intestines are not functioning normally. Our nurses are trained to care for stomas, including cleaning and managing the stoma site.

Our nursing care also covers the dressing of wounds, blood tests, and administering medication. Much of this can be done both at home and at the clinic, making it easier for patients to receive the care they need without having to travel.

For patients who have recently been discharged from hospital and who need continued care, our nurses assist with wound management, medications, and supporting the patient in following their treatment plan.

Nursing care

Physiotherapy is often a key part of pain management. Our physiotherapists’ personalised exercise programmes relieve pain and improve mobility. We use tools such as electrical stimulation, magnetic therapy, and other non-invasive treatments to ease muscle pain and inflammation.

For more complex cases, like chronic joint pain, treatments may involve medication, including corticosteroids to reduce inflammation. If the pain is linked to a neurological issue, such as migraines or lower back pain caused by a slipped disc, a neurologist may be involved to assess the situation and guide the treatment.

Pain management calls for collaboration. So if our neurologist rules out conditions like disc herniation, for instance, it means that any recommended physiotherapy or massage therapy can be both effective and safe.

Orthopaedic surgeons are specialists in musculoskeletal health, and they treat a wide range of conditions, from joint inflammation to fractures. Some orthopaedic doctors focus on specific areas of the body, such as the hands, the shoulders, or the knees, and they’ll recommend treatments ranging from physical therapy to injections to surgery.

If you have knee pain, elbow pain, or discomfort in any joint, whether from a sports injury, overuse, or for no obvious reason, an orthopaedic specialist will be your go-to expert. They can help with diagnosing the cause of the pain, whether it’s inflammation, an injury, or the result of wear and tear.

Fractures are a clear case for an orthopaedic trauma specialist, as these are injuries where the bone has been broken. But not all joint issues are trauma-related; some are the result of chronic conditions or even improper technique during exercise, leading to overuse injuries or inflammation in the joints.

Orthopaedic specialists handle joint injections and surgeries. In some cases, joint issues may stem from a chronic inflammatory condition that affects the entire body. Depending on the complexity of your issue, the right specialist will handle your treatment, whether it’s for the shoulder, hip, or elbow. Trauma and orthopaedics service

At VisitHealth, we offer lab services seven days a week starting from 8:00 a.m. You can simply walk into the clinic to have your blood tests done, whether you already know the list of tests you need or not. If you’re unsure about which tests to take but feel something is off, our doctors can examine you and provide the necessary referrals. Blood samples can be taken at the clinic or in the comfort of your home, and we can send a nurse to collect them. You can also consult with a doctor in person or over a video call to discuss your needs and get the required referrals.

If you have a chronic condition and need regular blood tests, you can send us your list of required tests or even dictate it over the phone, and we’ll confirm everything and provide clear pricing before proceeding. We’ll also give you instructions on how to prepare for your tests: whether you need to refrain from eating, whether it’s best to do the test in the morning or afternoon, and whether food intake might affect the results. We ensure you have all the necessary information before your appointment, and we then collect your samples either from your home or at the clinic.

In addition to blood tests, we offer lab services such as genetic testing (usually through a saliva sample) and cancer screenings, where we analyse circulating tumour cells in the blood. We can also take samples for urine and stool tests, as well as swabs for infections, including cervical and urethral swabs. Essentially, we test all types of biological material and provide a wide range of diagnostics, from immunology to infection screening.

Lab tests

At VisitHealth, our cardiology consultations focus on the health of your heart and cardiovascular system. This includes everything related to how your heart functions, the flow of blood through your body, and the health of your veins and arteries. Our cardiologists’ heart assessments include a full range of diagnostic tests to monitor and evaluate heart function.

We provide blood pressure monitoring, Holter monitoring (24-hour ECG monitoring), and stress ECG tests, where your heart function is evaluated during physical activity, such as on a stationary bike. We offer echocardiograms, which are an ultrasound of the heart, and Doppler scans of the blood vessels.

Blood tests are performed to give a full picture of your heart’s function. Based on these results, our cardiologists recommend the appropriate treatment plan or, if necessary, refer you for additional tests, such as a CT angiogram for more detailed imaging of the heart’s blood vessels.

Point of care testing

At VisitHealth, we offer a range of minor procedures that are carried out either at the clinic or, in some cases, at home. Simple wound dressings, stitching up cuts, and the removal of stitches are all handled by our expert team. We also apply and remove casts and treat more complex cases like chronic ulcers (such as trophic ulcers) that require multiple visits for proper care.

Some procedures, like cleaning and stitching wounds, need to be done at the clinic under sterile conditions, but simpler wound dressings can be handled at your home, where we can send nurses or doctors to assess your condition and set up a care plan.

We do full and partial nail removal for conditions like ingrown nails, which can become inflamed and painful, and we handle the draining and treatment of abscesses, carbuncles, and boils. These minor surgeries can be done quickly at the clinic, often without an appointment. We have a dedicated room for these procedures, so you can simply book a time or walk in if you need to.

We also offer foreign body removal, such as extracting glass from a foot or a small object lodged in the nose. This is a common issue, especially with children, and we use X-rays to locate the object if necessary. In more complicated cases, we can refer you to a surgeon or specialist.

We perform ear wax removal, either through water irrigation or suction, using special equipment. Ingrown toenails, which lead to inflammation, are also treated, along with the care and treatment of burns. For simple burns, such as those arising from boiling water, we can provide care, but more severe burns will require specialist treatment in a burns centre.

This doesn’t make you ill, but it does trigger an immune response so your body knows how to defend itself if it ever encounters the real thing.

There are different types of immunisations. Some are given to children as part of the standard vaccination schedule, while others are seasonal, such as the flu vaccine, which needs to be repeated annually, as immunity only lasts for a short time. Certain vaccines are required only once in a lifetime, while others might need boosters.

Immunisation is especially important for people working in certain professions, such as healthcare, where regular contact with blood or large groups of people increases the risk of infection. For these people, it’s vital to ensure their immunity is up to date.

At VisitHealth, we offer a wide range of vaccinations, including seasonal ones like the flu vaccine, as well as childhood immunisations according to the official schedule. We also provide vaccinations for travellers heading to regions with diseases not commonly found in the UK, like parts of Africa or South America. While we cover most vaccines, we do not offer the yellow fever vaccine.

This service is particularly valuable in complex cases, such as oncology or conditions requiring surgical or therapeutic intervention, where choosing the right treatment strategy is crucial.

For a second opinion, our team of specialists, which can include GPs, cardiologists, rheumatologists, haematologists, and radiologists, thoroughly reviews all existing medical documentation. They will assess the patient’s scans, such as CT and MRI images, and they will consult with the patient directly if needed. Radiologists may re-examine images as the outcome of these procedures can be operator-dependent, and sometimes important findings are missed. This re-evaluation can lead to a change in the treatment approach or confirmation of the original plan.

Often patients seek second opinions when they have received a diagnosis abroad in countries like Russia or the USA, where medical protocols may differ. They might want reassurance that the treatment options they were given align with the most up-to-date practices or protocols in the UK. At VisitHealth, we can conduct second opinion consultations remotely by analysing medical documentation from other countries, providing patients with our expert feedback and treatment recommendations.

In more straightforward cases, patients may seek a second opinion from a specific specialist, like an orthopaedic surgeon or cardiologist, in the face of uncertainty about their initial consultation. This allows them to compare opinions and make a more informed decision.

For complex cases involving multiple chronic conditions or a combination of diseases, such as cancer, haemophilia, and other chronic issues, our team assesses how one treatment might affect another condition. In these instances, a multidisciplinary is called for.

If a specialist such as an oncologist is not available in-house, we source the necessary expert to provide a thorough second opinion.
